1. Food is essential for all living things (plants, animals or human beings). Food provides us energy for growth and development and repair of wear and tear of damaged cells. This energy is utilized for growth of the body and to perform various activities of our daily life.We feel weak if you do not eat food for even one day. There is a lot of variety in the food we eat. This variety is due to different sources of food and the ingredients used to prepare them. In a nutshell food is essential for us because:-

(a)To provide energy

(b)For growth and development of the body

(c)To protect the body from diseases

(d)For repair of injured parts

(e)For reproduction

2.The six vital nutrients that our body needs are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals and roughage or fibre and also water

Beverages--- Any drink other than water is called beverage all the beverages whether alcoholic or non alcoholic obtained from plants e.g tea,coffee
