B.Differentiate between the following:-
1. Fibres which are obtained from nature are called natural fibres example cotton.
Man made fibres are made from petroleum or coal example nylon.
2. Spinning is the art of the process of twisting wool etc to make thread.
Ginning is the process of separation of cotton seed from cotton pods.
3. Weaving is the process of interlocking two sets of yarns at right angle to each other to form a fabric.
Knitting is to make cloth with the help of two kninning needles.
4. Coir is obtained from dried coconut and jute from jute plant.
C.Give one word answer for each of the following:-
1. Natural fibre 2. Ginning 3.Spinning
4. Retting 5. Sericulture
D.Match column A with column B:-
1. Natural fibre 2. Retting 3. Coir 4. Sheep
5. Synthetic
E.Give two example for each of the following:-
1. Cotton, jute 2. Nylon, rayon 3. Blend of wool,Polyester 4. Kashmiri mink, Angora goat 5.Assam,Benarasi 6. Cushion,doormat
F.Give reasons for each of the following:-
1. To drape our body and protect us from sunshine, cold and rain.
2. To kill live pupa inside cocoon.
3.Because it keeps us cool during hot summer, is easy to wash and good looking.
4. Because synthetic fibre have natural resistance to wrinkle.

J.Short Answer-Question:-
1. Fabrics are those garment made from interlaced fibre.
2. Fibre is yarn and fabric is dress material.
3. Black cotton soil.
4. Ginning is separation of cotton seed from cotton pod.
Retting is removal of bark from jute.
5. Looms are mechanical machine to weave clothes.
6. From its inner core.
7. Silky covering of silkworm larva.
J.Long Answer-Question:-
1.A good quality of the fabrics is important because it makes wearing a dress a pleasant experience. Using of good quality of fabric makes the cloth durable and well to do.Even after washing them the fabric remains up-to-date and the quality of cloth remains intact.
Fabric also keeps us comfortable during various seasons all through the year. In summer we wear cotton cloth and in winter warm or woolen garments. During rainy season we wear synthetic dress.
2.People living in different regions where different type of clothes because of the climatic condition of that reason and also according to the cultural aspect.
We wear different types of clothes according to the climate of the season like in summer season we wear cotton clothes because it is hot and cotton helps to absorb sweat which is ultimately keeps us cool.
3. Fibres are broadly classified as natural fibre and synthetic fibres. Fibres that are obtained from plants or animals are called natural fibres. Examples are cotton, jute, wool and silk.
Fibres that are made by man from chemical substances are called synthetic fibres. example of nylon, rayon, polyester and acrylic.
Synthetic fibres
1. Strong 2. Wrinkle free 3. Does not absorb much water.
Natural fibres
1. Weak 2. Get creased easily 3. Absorb lots of water.
4.Most suitable soil for the cotton plant is black soil because it has a great capacity to retain water. The cotton plant requires warm climate with a temperature about 21 degree Celsius to 27 degree Celsius. It also requires adequate rainfall of about 50 cm to 80 cm.
Cotton seeds are sown in early Spring. Cotton flowers of yellow colour bloom with in 2 months. After a few days, the petals fall off and green coloured structure, called cotton balls are exposed. Inside the cotton balls, grow small seeds and cotton fibres. On maturing this balls brust open and white mass is revealed.
With the help of machine cotton seeds are separated from cotton balls, process called ginning.
5. Jute fibre is obtained from the stem of jute plant. Jute plants are harvested and kept immersed in slow running water. Thus the stems slowly rot. The rotten tissues of the stem become soft whereas the fibre part of stem is still harder. So this soft, rotten mass of plant stems is separated from fibres. This process is done by farmers by hands. This is called retting.
To obtained coir fibres, the husks is removed from coconut either manually or mechanically. These husks are soaked or retted in water up to 10 months. Then the softened and husks are beaten manually or mechanically to separate the coir fibres.
6. Properties of synthetic fibres are:-
a . Strong and does not break easily.
b. Generally wrinkle free.
c. Durable and easy to maintain.
d. Resistant to moths and insects.
e. These fibres are cheaper.
7. The reason is that silkmoth only eat mulberry leaves.
A female silk moth lays 400 to 500 eggs at a time.
After about two weeks, the eggs hatch and tiny larva came out. These are called caterpillars. These caterpillars ate enormously for 5 to 6 weeks. They grow 10000 times heavier than when hatched.
Now each Caterpillar starts secreting saliva from its salivary glands.
On drying these saliva are converted as silk.
